The Camp Hatchet. Two day intermediate level workshop

There isn’t much that is more satisfying than splitting kindling with an axe that you have made yourself. The camp hatchet class is a great course for those who take their chopping seriously… and who doesn’t want to break out their own hand made axe at the cap fire!

Forged from a single piece of alloy steel, this hatchet will be a lifetime tool. Starting with a nugget of 4140 tool steel, you will punch and forge the axe eye, draw out and shape the blade, harden and heat treat the axe and then fit a custom handle to make this the perfect tool for your woodshed or campsite.

We cover a lot of techniques in this workshop and start to get into some more advanced forging procedures and tooling, this is a challenging and satisfying project to accomplish.

This is an intermediate level class: We do strongly recommend taking one of our introductory workshops before tackling the hatchet!

Located just outside of Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, the forge is a fully equipped working blacksmiths shop. Jake brings 25 years of forging experience as a leading architectural and sculptural blacksmith, with work around the world. Learn to forge under his careful tutelage.
