Centre for Metal Arts

I have led two major sculptural forging workshops at the Center for Metal Arts. During the first of these week long intensives in 2015 a team of 12 blacksmiths created an 8′ tall figurative piece, drawing inspiration from a re-interpretation of the mythology surrounding the gift of wine: The god Bacchus is found receiving his first communion from the rampant Pan, the ancient spirit of nature, a twist on the more usual tale of the gods bestowing wine upon humanity. The second workshop hosted at the CMA was another exploration of figurative sculpture. We created two pieces, one a pastoral scene of the Hudson Valley, the other an energetic female figure entitled “Don’t grab it”, two very evocative pieces drawing entirely opposite emotions, both entirely relevant to the time – 2017 – and place that they were created.
