“West Coast Nouveau” Stair railing. Inspired by classic Art Nouveau design and traditional 1st Nations Art Forms, these staircase panels are installed in a beautiful timber frame home on Vancouver Island. The main staircase panels are created to give a sense of movement and flow as you walk up or descend the stairs. The landing panels are designed to be viewed from a more stationary position and focus around a central abstract female form in the classic nouveau style. Forged steel with bronze accents. The deck railing was designed to match with the robust Arts and Crafts inspired timber framing and stonework, maintaining simple and clean lines, whist emphasizing the joinery techniques as a feature to the composition of the railing. The dogwood inspired motifs give an otherwise very geometric layout a visual softness, alluding to the organic nature of forged iron, and providing an all important focal point to which the viewers eye will always be drawn.
