Port Alberni Logging Camp - Jake James Blacksmith Works

Port Alberni Logging Camp

Port Alberni is a city undergoing a big shift, from industries based in natural resource extraction, to an economy centered on tourism. This sculpture was forged entirely from materials that had come from the cities industrial past, kindly provided by the preservation society and the McLean’s Mill museum. It shows an abandoned logging and mining camp, slowly reverting back to nature, being stumbled upon by a back country hiker. The sculpture is deigned to be explored by the viewers, being easily accessible and a ll at eye level, and is full of “hidden” features that are only revealed with a closer inspection. Forged and Fabricated Steel with a rust patina. 2014
