Blacksmith’s knife class.

This course is an excellent one day introduction to the basics of blade smithing. From a single piece of high carbon steel, you will forge a small knife with integral handle.

This class is an introduction to blade making with the focus on forging techniques and processes. We cover simple forging techniques that will allow you to shape the blade with hammer and anvil, anticipating material movement during the forging process, and then forge out and shape the handle. You will then hand file the blade before we dip into some metallurgy and heat treat the knife, giving you an edge that will stay sharp. The final result should be a small knife that will last you a lifetime!

Open to all, this class has been designed with the novice in mind and is the perfect class to take before signing up for one of our two day blade making workshops with Ryan.

Located just outside of Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, the forge is a fully equipped working blacksmiths shop. Jake brings 25 years of forging experience as a leading architectural and sculptural blacksmith, with work around the world. Learn to forge under his careful tutelage.
