Two day intermediate forging class
Blacksmith Toolmaking 1: Hammer
Come and learn to forge the essential tool of this craft in this two day forging workshop.
Make yourself a hammer! For those keen to expand their skill set, or take up blacksmithing as a hobby, or just want to make a hammer! This class will give you the tool you need.
You will forge your own hammer from a piece of alloy steel. We will choose the style of forging hammer you want to make, then you will punch and shape the eye, forge out and shape the faces, working with a partner and using the “smith and striker” method. You will then harden and heat treat the hammer before fitting it to a handle. By the end of the weekend you will have a tool that will last you a lifetime.
This is an intermediate level class, using more advanced techniques and tooling. For the best outcome, we strongly recommend taking one of our introductory workshops before signing up for this course.
Located just outside of Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, the forge is a fully equipped working blacksmiths shop. Jake brings 25 years of forging experience as a leading architectural and sculptural blacksmith, with work around the world. Learn to forge under his careful tutelage.
