Blacksmith Toolmaking 2: Tongs
Two day intermediate level forging workshop.
If you can’t hold, you can’t hit it! Tongs are an absolute essential for a blacksmith, an extension of our hands and vital to hold onto hot steel. Tongs are an excellent forging operation to learn and master, refining techniques you will have touched on in our introductory courses and learning to replicate processes as you hammer out both halves of a pair of tongs before riveting them together and fitting them to size.
This class will give you everything you need to know to forge, set and adjust tongs. You will leave the weekend with 2 pairs of finished tongs.
Tongs are one of my personal favourite tools to make and I will get into my thoughts on tong design and making, do’s and don’ts, and all the different styles and uses of blacksmith tongs.
This is an intermediate level class. We strongly recommend taking one of out introductory workshops first.
Located just outside of Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, the forge is a fully equipped working blacksmiths shop. Jake brings 25 years of forging experience as a leading architectural and sculptural blacksmith, with work around the world. Learn to forge under his careful tutelage.
