Bushcraft Knife: A two day workshop led by bladesmith Ryan Fogarty.

Ryan is a Sooke based bladesmith and forged culinary tool maker. His knives are wilderness adventure inspired –  rugged, utilitarian, and beautiful.

Ryan will bring a level of knowledge on knife making to this course that will take your blade smithing to the next level.

This class will get deep into the fine details of blade making. We will forge the blade from a single piece of high carbon steel – a uniform steel that will maintain a keen edge for years to come. You will delve into the complexities of metallurgy and heat treating, grind the blade to a fine finish and then fit a riveted on handle of stabilized wood. Once completed you will have made a classic west coast bushcraft style knife.

For anyone with an interest in exploring the art of knife making this class is an absolute must, and the blade you make during the weekend will be a lifetime tool for all your camping trips and adventures.

Located just outside of Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, the forge is a fully equipped working blacksmiths shop. Jake brings 25 years of forging experience as a leading architectural and sculptural blacksmith, with work around the world. Ryan has 20 years of metalworking skill, including metalspinning, blacksmithing and blade smithing.
