Two day blade smithing workshop
Damascus Kitchen Knife: A two day workshop led by bladesmith Ryan Fogarty.
Ryan is a Sooke based bladesmith and forged culinary tool maker. His knives are wilderness adventure inspired – rugged, utilitarian, and beautiful.
Ryan will bring a level of knowledge on knife making to this course that will take your blade smithing to the next level.
This class will get even deeper into the fine details of blade making, picking up from out introductory blacksmith knife course, or Ryan’s bushcraft blade.
You will forge a damascus steel billet, fire welding the layers before hammering and shaping the billet into a kitchen knife . You will delve into the complexities of metallurgy and heat treating, grind the blade to a fine finish and then fitting a handle of stabilized wood. Once completed you will have made a beautiful kitchen knife that will take pride of place in your home.
For anyone with an interest in exploring the art of knife making this class will be an absolute must. The blade you make during the weekend will be an heirloom tool and serve you well for years to come.
Located just outside of Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, the forge is a fully equipped working blacksmiths shop. Jake brings 25 years of forging experience as a leading architectural and sculptural blacksmith, with work around the world.
