I love to teach introduction to blacksmithing courses with an object that is a very standard piece of everyday life, and the hook is certainly one of those.
We will cover a number of basic blacksmithing techniques in this project as I introduce you to the fundamental principals or forging hot metal. Drawing out, tapering, spreading and bending…. we will unlock the mystery and strike while the iron is hot!
I will provide you with design options for your hook, so there is lots of room for creative expression as you shape the metal with hammer and anvil, and create this wonderfully useful project. Want to get organic? You can forge a leaf! Traditional… How about a scroll end? Feeling adventurous? Maybe we’ll try a dragon’s head. your imagination is really then only limit here.
Located just outside of Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, the forge is a fully equipped working blacksmiths shop. Jake brings 25 years of forging experience as a leading architectural and sculptural blacksmith, with work around the world. Learn to forge under his careful tutelage.
